Fuck Yeah Queer Latin@s

mayachapina:

Support Bay Area community artists to strengthen their creativty and leadership by sending them to NALAC!
Who we are:
Rio Yañez is a curator, tortilla artis and graphic artist, born and raised in the SF Mission. Maya Chinchilla is a professor of Latina/Latino Studies and founding member of all female poetic crew Las Manas.  Javier Hurtado is found member of NosJotros Crew and produces the queer new work performance series: Love Through Deviant Ears. Jesus Baraza has been creating art for over 15 years and is one half of the activist graphic arts collective Dignidad Rebelde.
Individually and collectively we are artists actively engaged in our communities and produce work that challenges the status quo. We represent queer, feminist, nerdy, chubby, political and social justice struggles.
What we are doing:
Poet Maya, graphic artist Rio, performance artist Javier and printmaker Jesus have been selected to participate in the 12th annual National Association of Latino Arts and Culture’s Leadership Institute which will convene July 16-21, 2012 in San Antonio, TX.
This amazing opportunity is only offered to a select few artists, performers, producers and arts administrators from community based arts and cultural organizations from across the nation every year. Some of what we will learn includes advocacy, grant writing, mission & vision, budgeting, fundraising, programming and the vital role of community involvement by nationally recognized professionals and leaders in the arts and cultural field.
What we need
In order to attend, we have to come up with $4,000 collectively. We are reaching out to our communities to help fund our participation in hopes that we can raise at least half the money needed thru this campaign. Funds raised with your generous donations will go towards our tuition, transportation and lodging.
We only have a short time (15 days!) but we can do it with your help.
An opportunity like the Leadership Institute has the potential to be a life changing event for us. The impact on our careers and the connections we will make will allow us to better engage and serve our communities and to grow personally and professionally.
